Congratulations to the SUN Locals, worksites, and Members who completed almost 2900 Work Situation Reports (WSRs) in 2025 and are finding ways to collaborate and problem-solve in the Joint Nursing Advisory Committee (NAC).
SUN members have progressively documented their concerns on WSRs, so that, since 2022, completion has risen from 171 per month to 239 per month in 2025.
You are raising your voice, working through difficult conversations, and advocating for your patients/clients/residents and reinforcing appropriate registered nursing and Nurse Practitioner professional practice in Saskatchewan.

2025 Professional Practice Escalations
In 2025, 1 SHA Board of Directors referral and 2 Board of Directors presentations were completed, escalating 139 WSRs from members for which solutions could not be found through collaborative problem-solving at the Joint NAC with Unit Leadership. Each resulted in IAC Referrals under Article 57.14, following receipt of the SHA Board of Directors’ response and lack of intervention.

- October 2025: Calder Centre, Saskatoon
In 2025, significant work was undertaken by Locals and SUN Provincial to address growing professional practice, workload, and registered nursing staffing deficiencies, including the culmination of 2024 – 2025 IAC Referrals, resulting in:
- 1 IAC Hearing Adjourned
- Saskatoon City Hospital – Transitional Care Unit. The IAC Panel adjourned the pending IAC Hearing due to notification of a change in operations, including the closure and transition of nursing unit services to increase inpatient medicine services at Saskatoon City Hospital.
- 3 IAC Panel Decisions, and
- Saskatoon District Public Health and Other Community Nurses – Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections Services and Resource (SSAR)
- Swift Current, Cypress Regional Hospital – Medical/Surgical Department
- Yorkton Regional Health Centre – 3 South Surgery
- 1 IAC Hearing – Planning In-progress
- March 2026: Calder Centre, Saskatoon
The IAC decisions received in 2025 consistently delivered a clear message, recognizing the impacts of registered nursing and Nurse Practitioner deficits, patient safety requirements, Supernumerary Charge Nurses, Clinical Resource and Clinical Educator positions, and orientation/education/staff development, resulting in binding recommendations for implementation.
